Gameplay

As with earlier games in this series, Tales of Arise is an action role play title, but its design has undergone undisclosed improvements, though maintaining the core combat structure of Tales called the Linear Motion Combat Structure.  It happens in a setting divided among the ancient Dahna worlds and the modern Rena universe. Rena's high-tech and mystical creation allows her to hold power over Dahna and to steal her wealth and view her people as slaves. The characters are a man from the Dahna Alps and a female from the Rena, Shionne who eventually move together.

The Arise development began before the 2018 announcement of the Definitive Edition of Vesperia, according to producer Yusuke Tomizawa. The aim was to revise and develop the Tales franchise formula, starting with development under the codename "Arise." The naming of the game is based on its name because both the plot elements of the match and the team's desires are best exemplified. During previous Tale games, Arise was made with the Unreal Engine 4, allowing a much higher quality of graphics in comparison to earlier entries. The team aimed to achieve the same level of quality found in 3D films and television, and character models and moving were improved also.

Bandai Namco Studios is developing Arise. The team included veterans, who were passionate about the series, as far back as Tales of Phantasia. The head of art and creator of the protagonist was Minoru Iwamoto, who worked on Zestirian and Berserian stories. This was Bandai Namco's first move in unifying the concepts and design of the title. This was the first time the same individual has performed these positions. Compared to earlier entries, the world design took a darker look both for advancing the development of the series and for the Western market. Given the transparent focus on 3D imagery, 2D animation scenes are still designed as before.
